Andrea Shaw is an attorney, senior regulatory risk executive, and adjunct professor with nearly 20 years of experience at the intersection of business law, financial regulation, enterprise risk management, and emerging technology. Her career spans global financial institutions, regulatory organizations, and FinTech and digital asset companies, providing her with a unique perspective on how law, regulation, technology, and business strategy intersect in practice.
Throughout her career, Ms. Shaw has held legal, compliance, and risk leadership positions with organizations including Morgan Stanley, UBS Financial Services, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), CLS Group, American Express, and Deutsche Bank, as well as executive roles within FinTech and digital asset companies. Her areas of expertise include enterprise and operational risk management, financial crime and anti-money laundering, consumer protection, data privacy, information security, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.
Ms. Shaw has advised senior executives and business leaders on complex legal and regulatory matters, developed and implemented enterprise risk and compliance frameworks, and helped organizations navigate evolving U.S. and international regulatory requirements. Her experience also includes obtaining and maintaining regulatory licenses across the United States, Canada, European Union, and United Kingdom, as well as advising on emerging technologies and innovative financial products, including digital assets, blockchain, and automated governance, risk, compliance, and customer due diligence solutions.
Ms. Shaw brings this practitioner experience directly into the classroom. She has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Albany Law School since 2019, teaching graduate-level courses focused on financial regulation, financial institutions and products, compliance, cybersecurity, technology, and risk management. She also teaches undergraduate Business Law, where she focuses on helping students understand how legal principles influence everyday business decisions, corporate strategy, innovation, and risk.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes connecting legal doctrine with real-world business challenges, contemporary cases, and emerging issues. She believes students learn best when they understand not only what the law requires, but why it matters and how it affects the decisions made by businesses, executives, entrepreneurs, and regulators.
Ms. Shaw earned her Juris Doctor, with a specialization in International Law and Practice, from Albany Law School and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hofstra University. She is admitted to practice law in New York.
